Dear SDACC family, we are embarking on a unique journey as we read, study, and apply the book of Romans to our lives. Preparing the Gospel series for the last six months has been a humbling experience. It is the most daunting task I have undertaken as a preacher. Yet, I am beaming with excitement because I believe God will speak to us through a letter that remains relevant almost 2,000 years after being written.
You might be thinking, “Pastor, what is this all about?” The answer is simple. Together, we will discover, delight in, and disseminate God's amazing grace. There are some important things we need to do in order to maximize our spiritual growth while navigating the "Gospel" series.
First, it is crucial to read the Bible passage before the sermon. In this sense, the reading will give us an idea about the text and how complex the language may be. I will be telling you what portion of Romans we are to study every week via our WhatsApp broadcast.
Second, it is key to study the devotional thought posted on our website, which will serve as a sermon preview, giving us some context and practical applications concerning the passage for that week. You will receive a link to that sermon preview on Thursday morning.
Third, as God speaks to us on Sabbath morning, I will present to you the main, the key idea of the passage as clear, practical and biblically sound as possible. But to make sure you don't thank me for bananas when I preached about mangoes, I kindly ask you to rewatch the sermon either on our Facebook page or our YouTube channel.
The reading and studying of Romans led to the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century, something that could only be dreamed of at that time. Your pastor is a dreamer. You know that. Bear with me for a moment and allow me to share my dreams with you.
I am dreaming that the preaching of Romans in our church will lead to a spiritual reformation, a powerful revival, and a passion to reach out to the people around us to share the gospel with them. I am dreaming that you will use the content I will be sharing for your personal devotion and edification. I am dreaming that our Sabbath School Classes and Care Groups will take a few minutes every week, to discuss the ideas, challenges and truths that we will find together as we read about the message of salvation in the book of Romans.
Are you ready for the Gospel series? Are you ready for the book of Romans? Are you ready to dream with me? If yes, let me tell you, "Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 1:7 NIV).
May the Lord bless you and keep you!
